Coach Cliff Paul has over 10 years of official basketball coaching in his career, but a lifetime of experience in the game. At an early age Coach Cliff assisted his Mother’s AAU program and coached the younger teams while he himself was still a player. His brothers helped propel his coaching career to new heights as Brandon won Mr. Basketball for the state of Illinois in 2009 and Darius made it to the IHSA State Championship where he narrowly lost to Jabari Parker in 2011. His younger brother Brandon followed him to the University of Illinois to play where Coach Cliff had a front row view of not only the play, but the behind the scenes practices and 2 different coaching regimes. He began officially coaching in 2006 while at U of I working with the Boys and Girls Club travel basketball program in Champaign, where he coached and mentored kids from kindergarten thru high school with his fraternity volunteering, and eventually as his part time job during school.

He returned from Champaign and resumed coaching in the Chicagoland area in 2014. His  versatility allowed for his teams to vary in levels from as young as 2nd grade to as old as high school seniors, some recruited for D2 & D3 basketball. One thing that is constant in Coach Cliff’s basketball philosophy, is that high energy and positive reinforcement are staples in building a players confidence, and a teams chemistry. Coach Cliff continues playing regularly when he is not coaching, in men’s Basketball leagues all around the Chicagoland area, mostly ran by a business he is a principal partner in, the Chicago Stats League. He loves being in the gym everyday and is always excited to teach whoever wants to learn, at any level of the game.

A lifelong basketball junkie as a player, youth coach and fan.   I have been coaching kids for 20+ years in camps, individual sessions and travel teams.    I coached my two daughters in feeder / travel and ran the Elmhurst Airborne Basketball program for many years.   Recently, I opened up the Sports Centre of the North Shore, which is a sports facility with a basketball court and 2 turf fields.

My passion to help improve the quality of youth basketball in the area led to starting the North Shore Basketball Academy program.    Our program brings a different approach to AAU / travel basketball teams and training.
